Madeleine Shulman is an aspiring artist living in Tucson, Arizona. She started out as a Color Me Beautiful color consultant in the 1980’s draping people with colored fabrics to determine which colors best suited that person’s individual coloring, Madeleine thought it would be a great idea to take evening art courses to expand her color knowledge. Among her first classes was Interpretative Figure Drawing with models in an elaborate setup. No drawing skills required! These exciting classes lasted for years! Emphasis was on interpreting the scene using the model and the props and getting it on canvas within the three hour class time! What a challenge! Art was basically a part time hobby. Today, honing her skills and expanding her knowledge in oils, acrylics or gouache is her main goal. Going from figure drawing to still lives, flowers, and landscapes have been an exciting journey. She especially loves to do portraits and getting a likeness. The most important goal in any painting is getting that elusive light, the emotion of the scene, and of course, the use of bright joyous color!
